Cincinnati Zoo and IKEA Too!

What a weekend! Ok, really just Saturday, but, WOW, what a day. Coici and I took the boys to the zoo....in Cincinnati. We left at the butt-crack of dawn and drove to Cincy in time for the zoo opening. Here is a photo of two excited little boys ready to begin their adventure. Please note: The photographer wished to inform you that we have hit the "cheesy" phase of childhood during which children have NO idea how to smile normally. This too shall pass....I hope.

We decided that one boy's wingspan is not enough...Team work!
They have a great little playground....

Alex coming out of his shell.

The boys liked the petting zoo, although Noah was much more into brushing the sheep and goats than Alex was. Noah brushed everything that had fur....whether or not it stood still.

One of the highlights of the day was the Cheetah show. The trainers set up a lure course, and we actually got to see two cheetahs run all out as they chased their "prey." AMAZING! I got a close up of this "little" guy at the end of the show looking at all the snacks...er...I mean, children, walking by.

Baby Manatee!!

If you ask Noah what his favorite animal was, he will tell you, "the train!" So much for my budding naturalist. Coici and I endured (and I DO mean "endured") Noah's CONSTANT pleas to ride the train. We HAD to give in....three times. It's a great little train ride, but, REALLY??

Coici mid "choo choo."

One of my favorite parts was the Lorakeets. Armed with nectar and seed sticks, you could have these little darlings land on you as you feed them their feast. We went towards the end of the day, so most of them were full and NOT interested, but this little guy hung out for quite awhile. He was more interested in licking me though. Yes...licking...apparently they like the salty sweat on human skin. Until you have had a tongue bath from a bird, you have not lived. Just sayin'.

Hitching a ride on Noah.

Alex's favorite zoo animal continues to be the Bald Eagle, so when he saw that the carousel had a bald eagle to ride on, he was THRILLED. I must admit...it was kinda cool.

Noah chose a zebra as his trusty stead.

The kid is rockin' out on his zebra to some great 80's tunes that were playing.

OH the mist tunnel--awesome! It's not very wide, but once you are inside, you cannot see 6 inches in front of you. W-I-L-D!

Monster in the Mist!
After the zoo ('cause the day was just not long enough yet!) we went to IKEA! We actually dropped the boys off in the little playland and got to careen through IKEA for ONE WHOLE HOUR! Bliss. We ate dinner, and headed out to the car around 8pm. Remember the bright-eyed little boys in the first picture? Check this out: On the way home.....

My friends, these two stayed awake the whole way home (watching a DVD) and both were BEGGING for bed when we pulled into the driveway around 10pm. A GREAT (perhaps wee-bit-exhausting) day!!!

Noah and the Walrus

On a rainy Sunday, Coici and I took the boys to the zoo for a little fun. The rain was heavy, and the crowds were light. We spent time sprinting from one indoor exhibt to the next until we get to to the walrus enclsosure. For those of you who have never been to our zoo, it is basically a small covered area with theater seating benches with a large tank in the front. Here lives Mr. Walrus. Noah's favorite. As we literally run into this enclosure, Noah heads straight for the glass and stands in front of the tank. Seemingly out of nowhere, Mr. Walrus comes up to the glass, looks at Noah and gives him a head butt! That is when I heard it. The laughing..... The "awwws....." I turn around to see that this little theater is FILLED with people waiting for Mr. Walrus to show up. Noah is the only one in the front. Now, what does Noah do when he knows he has an audience? Hams it up...you got it. So, for about the next 5 minutes, Noah and the walrus perform their schtick with Noah kissing the walruse and the walrus "kissing" him back. Leave it to Noah to spread a little sunshine wherever he goes....even into the world of a walrus!
Worn out by his encounter with Noah (who isn't?), Mr. Walrus actually settled down for a little nap right by the window.....

....So Noah did too....

Muddy Waters

Noah loves mud. No, really...I mean he LOVES mud. Why have nice clean water in your pool when you can turn it into your own private mud pit?!!

In some places, this would be considered a spa treatment!
